Last week one of husband’s friends asked us to join him and some friends for dinner on this past Saturday. A “guy he knew” would be making a birthday dinner for him and 10 of his friends. We said yes. At that point, I had no idea.
Saturday was definitely the best day of this year so far! We woke up Saturday with the best of intentions to paint. After watching some morning tv, I proposed we do something outside, it looked to be the last day of 40 degree weather for awhile. Husband agreed and we were off with our dog to some hiking trails in Ada. We hiked and ran about 5 miles. Our dog was in heaven, and we were muddy, but we loved every minute of it.
After our hike we met up with husbands best friend for some lunch. This is where I learned that I just hiked through a park well known for being haunted by this girl. Interesting but not believable.
On our way home from lunch husbands proceeds to tell me how the previous night at hockey, Andy told him that the “guy he knew” making us dinner that evening was Jorge San Chez.
“I’m sorry WHAT? Jorge San Chez is making ME dinner, I’m sorry Andy’s birthday dinner??”
“Yeah, I knew you’d like that, and Mike’s going too.” And Mike’s going too?? That would be my brother.
I was thrilled beyond belief.
And let me explain.
Jorge San Chez is the previous owner, the creator, the masterpiece behind one of my cities best restaurants, San Chez.
We arrived at Jorge’s house and I was immediately house jealous. Now, you would think that it would be this huge mansion in some new development right? Wrong. And that’s why I loved it. This house was built in 1905. It had so much character that I couldn’t stop staring and gushing. I thought I was going to pee my pants. Husband says, “yeah, you need to sell houses.” Hehehe. I KNOW!
So I contain myself long enough to mingle around with the small crowd, we knew some people, didn’t know some people. We snacked on yummy, yummy crab dip and homemade salsa before dinner while drinking giant glasses of chardonnay.
Then, as I’m mingling, I find out some very important and FUN information!
Jorge San Chez not only cooks but also sells houses! And so does his friend Bob, who actually owns his own company. Who was lucky enough to discuss becoming a real estate agent with him? ME! Who wants to meet me for coffee to answer all of my questions and give his thoughts? BOB!
Who was making connections like no other? ME! Hey, this is who I have to be in 2007!
Then, it was dinner time.
Fresh Salmon with horseradish and beer mustard, pork loin seasoned with mojo, chicken and cheese stuffed ravioli with homemade sauce, and homemade bread.
Ah, heaven.
And for dessert. Homemade Rrrrrrrrrum Cake. Made by Doug. Who was nice enough to take my picture while taking a bite.
Let’s just say that I felt stupid when my brother went on and on about my cooking and calling me Rachael Ray Junior in front of Jorge. I mean, pork loin is one of the meats I’m actually scared to cook because I’m not sure what to do with it.
A.Mazing. 2007 rocks.
